Income Protection

Life can be unpredictable. Pandora’s income protection benefits are available to help if an illness, injury, accident, or unexpected event impacts your ability to work or your finances. These benefits are designed to help protect your income, so you can focus on taking care of yourself and the people who matter most.

Life & AD&D insurance

Life insurance helps provide financial support to your loved ones if you pass away. Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) coverage offers added protection if a serious accident results in death or a covered injury. Pandora offers you basic coverage and the option to buy supplemental policies to ensure you have the coverage you need.

What this insurance provides

  • Support for your family financially if the unexpected happens
  • Assistance covering everyday expenses, future needs, or outstanding bills
  • Peace of mind knowing your loved ones are protected

Learn more about life insurance by watching a short video.

What you receive

  • Basic life insurance for your full salary (up to $200,000) from Pandora
  • AD&D coverage for your full salary (up to $200,000) from Pandora

You may also purchase supplemental life insurance and AD&D coverage through MetLife in the following amounts:

  • Up to $500,000 for yourself and spouse/domestic partner
  • Up to $10,000 for each child

Keep in mind: If you’re a new hire, you can enroll in up to $130,000 in supplement life insurance without evidence of insurability (EOI), which requires a medical exam and forms to be submitted regarding your health. EOI is needed for any election over $130,000. The same applies for spouse or domestic partner coverage up to $25,000 in supplemental life insurance.

However, if you are electing or increasing your supplemental life insurance during Open Enrollment, EOI is required for all elections, regardless of the coverage amount

You must enroll in supplemental life insurance and AD&D coverage during Open Enrollment. This is the only time you can enroll and/or increase your coverage amounts. Be sure to name beneficiaries, but you can do this (or update them) at any time throughout the year.

Life insurance and AD&D through Triple S

Additionally, when you enroll in Triple S health benefits, you automatically receive the following policies:

  • Life insurance: $10,000 for natural death or death by accident
  • Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D): up to $10,000 if you lose a body part or certain body functions due to an accident. The loss must occur within 90 days of the accident. Triple S will pay the following:
    • Loss of both hands, feet, arms, or legs or loss of sight in both eyes: $10,000
    • The combination of loss of one hand and one foot, loss of one leg and one arm, one leg and one eye: $10,000
    • Loss of a hand, foot, arm, leg or an eye: $5,000

Disability coverage for when you can’t work

If an illness or injury keeps you from working, disability coverage helps replace part of your income so that you’re not worrying about finances while you focus on getting better. MetLife is the administrator for all disability claims.

Short-Term Disability (STD)

STD provides partial income replacement for a limited period when you’re medically unable to work. It’s different from PTO and different from Workers’ Compensation (which covers work related injuries/illness).

What’s covered

STD may apply when a health condition prevents you from performing your job due to an eligible medical reason, such as:

  • Recovery from surgery
  • A serious illness or injury
  • Pregnancy, childbirth, and recovery time (as defined by the plan)
  • Other conditions supported by medical documentation

STD generally doesn’t cover time off that isn’t medically necessary or conditions that don’t meet the plan’s definition of disability.

Know the difference! If your condition is work-related, you may be covered under Workers’ Compensation instead of STD.

Who’s eligible

All full-time employees automatically have STD coverage beginning the first of the month following their date of hire.

How much money you receive

If your claim is approved, STD replaces a portion of your pay for a limited time. STD usually calculates benefits based on your earnings as defined by the plan (often base pay, sometimes excluding commissions/bonuses).

Your STD benefit is as follows:

  • Benefit percentage: 60% of weekly earnings
  • Weekly maximum: $1,500 (if applicable)
  • Benefit duration: Up to 12 weeks
  • Tax note: Benefits may be taxable depending on how premiums are paid.

When benefits begin

STD benefits begin after you’ve been out for a required period of time, sometimes called the waiting period or elimination period.

  • Waiting period: seven days
  • If different by reason (illness vs. injury): Benefits begin immediately with no waiting period.

Pro tip! If you expect to be out more than a few days, it’s best to start your claim early, even if you don’t have all documentation ready yet.

Long-Term Disability (LTD)

If a serious illness or injury keeps you from working for an extended period of time, Long-Term Disability (LTD) can help protect your income. Pandora’s LTD benefit—administered by MetLife—replaces a portion of your pay so that you can focus on recovery while continuing to support yourself and your family.

At a glance: LTD provides ongoing income replacement if you’re unable to work for a longer period after Short-Term Disability ends.

What’s covered

LTD insurance may help replace part of your income if you’re unable to work due to a covered illness, injury, or pregnancy-related condition that lasts beyond the short-term period.

LTD benefits are paid directly to you, giving you flexibility in how you use the money, including for:

  • Mortgage or rent
  • Utilities and household bills
  • Groceries and transportation
  • Childcare or tuition
  • Other ongoing living expenses

Who’s eligible

All full-time employees automatically have LTD coverage beginning the first of the month following their date of hire.

How much money you receive

If your claim is approved, LTD replaces 60% your monthly pre-disability earnings (your base pay before your disability began, excluding bonuses, commissions, and overtime) up to $10,000 per month.

  • Benefits are based on a percentage of your income.
  • Payments are made monthly, directly to you.
  • Coverage continues for an extended period, depending on your plan design.
  • Premiums are paid conveniently through payroll deductions.

When LTD kicks in

LTD benefits typically begin after you’ve been disabled for a set period of time, often following the end of STD.

This waiting period helps ensure coverage transitions smoothly from short- to long-term income protection when needed.

Hospital Indemnity Insurance

This insurance helps you with unexpected expenses related to a hospital stay (for example, expenses that may not be covered under your medical plan). Benefit payments are made for covered events regardless of other insurance payments you may receive.

Hospital Indemnity Insurance is a fixed indemnity policy—NOT health insurance. It pays a set dollar amount for covered events. The payment you get isn’t based on the size of your medical bill, and you’re still responsible for the cost of your care.
